With over twenty years of experience as a litigator, Henry J. Bongiovi has been AV Rated (“5 out of 5”) by the legal community in audits conducted by Martindale-Hubbell, a testament to the fact that his peers rank him at the highest level of professional excellence. Less than 11% of all attorneys in the country carry an “AV” rating. In addition, Mr. Bongiovi is also rated Superb (“10 out of 10”) by AVVO.
Mr. Bongiovi attended Loyola Law School, Los Angeles and thereafter became licensed to practice law before all of the courts of the State of California. Upon graduation, Mr. Bongiovi worked at boutique and specialty law firms in Los Angeles, engaged in construction defect ligation, business litigation, corporate and securities litigation, real property litigation, and employment litigation. From there, Mr. Bongiovi became a Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney, where he honed his trial skills and was nicknamed “Nails” for his tough approach to cases.
At the end of 1995, Mr. Bongiovi moved his family to Santa Barbara and soon thereafter opened the Law Offices of Henry J. Bongiovi, a general business law practice with an emphasis on employment and labor law. The central theme of Mr. Bongiovi’s practice is excellence through balance – by representing both employers and employees, Mr. Bongiovi is able to understand and evaluate claims and legal positions from all perspectives.
Mr. Bongiovi has presented employment law seminars for Lorman Educational Services, The Council on Education in Management, and California JPIA. In addition, Mr. Bongiovi was plaintiffs’ counsel in the seminal California Supreme Court published opinion of Tidewater Marine Western, Inc. vs. Bradshaw 14 Cal.4th 557 (1996).
Upon being asked to be a member of the Santa Barbara Superior Court’s first Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, Mr. Henry Bongiovi participated in creating the successful CMADRESS program for the efficient disposition of cases through the court system. Mr. Bongiovi is also a past Chairman of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association’s Employment Law Division. In addition, he has served as the Chairman of the Conference of Delegates for the Santa Barbara Bar Association. Mr. Bongiovi is a past Master of the William L. Gordon Inn of Court. He has also served on the Advisory Board of a local Santa Barbara charity.
In 1986, Mr. Bongiovi received his B.A. from the University of California, San Diego. For several years, Mr. Bongiovi worked as a research scientist at prestigious institutions, such as the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, Immunology Department, and Hybritech Incorporated. Mr. Bongiovi’s strong science background provides him the analytical structure to attack legal problems from all sides.
